JACKSON HEIGHTS — Police have arrested a man for fatally stabbing a young dad to death as he walked to get a haircut by his home in December.

William Avila, 22, allegedly stabbed Steven Shimabuku, 25, to death on 37th Avenue near 90th Street at 9:15 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19.

Avila, of East Elmhurst, was arrested Friday and charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, according to police.

Shimabuku, a plumber and father of a 3-year-old boy, left the evening of Dec. 19 to get a haircut but came running back to his home up the street moments later after being stabbed, reports said.

He was stabbed outside a bodega on the corner of his home, and later died at Elmhurst Hospital.

The motive for the bloodshed was not clear.

The NYPD released surveillance video of the suspect in January and identified him as Avila in February.
