BROOKLYN — An NYPD officer accidentally shot his partner in the foot when a pit bull charged at them inside a Brownsville apartment building Tuesday night, police said.

The officers, both men whose identities were not immediately released, got a 911 call of a dispute inside an apartment at 9720 Kings Highway, near East 98th Street, about 10:30 p.m., an NYPD spokeswoman said.

When they arrived, a tenant inside opened the apartment door, prompting a dog inside to charge one of the officers, the spokeswoman said.

That officer fired a single round that grazed the pooch and hit his fellow officer in the foot, fracturing his toe, police said.

The officer who was struck was in stable condition at an area hospital, NYPD officials said.

The pit bull was taken into the care of Animal Care & Control, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

Police made no arrests related to the original dispute call, officials said.

An NYPD spokeswoman said she did not know if the officer had his gun drawn prior to the dog's charge.

Police said they are investigating the incident.
