JACKSON HEIGHTS — A smoky fire in a top-floor apartment on 37th Avenue that injured two people was caused by food left on the stove, according to the FDNY.

The two-alarm fire at 35-64 81st St., which also lacked smoke alarms, began at 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 and quickly spread to parts of the roof, the FDNY said.

It was under control by 12:39 a.m.

Two people were taken in serious condition to Elmhurst Hospital, according to the FDNY.
