PROSPECT HEIGHTS — A Korean-American restaurant is set to take the place of Pequeña in Prospect Heights after the popular Mexican spot closed its doors last week, staff said.

The restaurant’s owners, Chelsea and Ben Altman, plan to work with husband-and-wife chef team Liz Kwon and Yookwon Chung to open White Tiger, a “Korean-American tavern” in the space at the corner of Vanderbilt Avenue and Bergen Street.

White Tiger’s menu and opening date are to be determined, but the Altmans said the eatery would serve “both classic and creative dishes using quality ingredients.”

Staff at Pequeña attributed the closure to a decrease in customers and a change in partnership. Open on the avenue since 2010, the eatery made no special announcement of the closure, simply posting a hand-written “closed” sign on the restaurant's front door last week.

“So sad when good things end,” wrote Pequeña fan Robert Bell with the hashtag #nomoremargaritas on an Instagram photo of the sign and the restaurant’s door.

Despite the closure, there are no plans to end service at Pequeña’s original Ft. Greene location on South Portland Avenue, which remains open, its manager said.
