BROOKLYN — A man offered to pay a woman for sex early Sunday in Crown Heights, then shoved her to the ground and tried to rape her when she refused, police said.

The 32-year-old woman was walking near Troy Avenue and Park Place about 3 a.m. when a man came up behind her and solicited her, according to the NYPD.

The woman refused, so he pushed her to the ground and tried to rape her, police said.

She managed to free herself and ran away, police said.

The suspect, who is about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, fled and had not been arrested as of Thursday morning, police said. He's believed to be in his 30s.

Police released a sketch of the suspect who at the time of the attack was wearing a beanie, headphones, a black hoodie and a waist-length North Face bubble jacket, police said.

He spoke with an accent that NYPD officials characterized as African. They did not specify which country his accent reflected.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477).
