EAST HARLEM — Waves of NYPD blue applauded their own as the officer wounded by accused bodega robbers in The Bronx was released from Mount Sinai Hospital Friday afternoon.
About a hundred uniformed police greeted Officer Andrew Dossi, 30, at about 2 p.m. as he was escorted from the hospital to a black police van that would bring him home.
Above the reedy echo of bagpipes in the wind, officers applauded Dossi, and hollered “Atta boy, Andy!” as the wounded officer made his way in a wheelchair across an inner courtyard of the Upper East Side hospital.

Dossi waved triumphantly to the crowd and smiled as he walked from his wheelchair to the car.
"Today is special day for officer Dossi and his family," said Pat Lynch, president of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Society, after Dossi had been tucked away into the police vehicle. "We thank the citizens of the city for the support they've given every New York City police officer."
Dossi, of the 46th precinct in The Bronx, was shot in the left arm and back on Jan. 5 while trying to apprehend the suspects in an armed robbery at Welcome 2 Yemen Deli in Fordham. Dossi underwent multiple surgeries after the attack.
Jason Polanco, 25, the alleged shooter, was arrested on Jan. 6 and is being held without bail.
