THE BRONX — A drunk driver killed a woman on New Year's Day in Parkchester when he slammed his Dodge Charger into a livery cab she was riding in, police said.

Hernan Vega, who had a blood alcohol level of .08 percent, was heading west on the Cross Bronx Expressway with two other people in his muscle car when he rear-ended the cab that had stopped at a red light at the intersection of Rosedale Avenue about 8 a.m., according to the NYPD.

Pamela Pimentel, a 27-year-old Bedford Park resident who was riding in the cab, was pronounced dead at Jacobi hospital, police said.

The 54-year-old driver of the Mercury Marquis livery cab was in stable condition at Montefiore's Einstein hospital, police said.

Vega, a 37-year-old Soundview resident, and his two passengers, a 37-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, were treated for minor injuries at Jacobi, police said.

Vega was arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and drunk driving, NYPD officials said.

He was still awaiting arraignment Friday afternoon, prosecutors said.
