ARDEN HEIGHTS — Two workers were shot during an attempted robbery at an Arden Heights deli early New Year's Day, police said.

Two men walked into the Hot Bagels deli at 1307 Arthur Kill Rd. around 1:31 a.m. and displayed two guns, police said. The suspects ordered the four workers inside to lie on the ground and, when two 30-year old males didn't, they shot one in the arm and the other in the torso, police said.

The suspects fled the deli and drove away in a light colored four door sedan driven by a third person, police said.

The victims were taken to Staten Island University Hospital North. The man shot in the shoulder was treated and released, and the man shot in the torso was not thought to have life threatening injuries, police said.

Police said the suspects were wearing dark colored masks, blue hooded sweatshirts and dark colored pants.

A worker at Hot Bagels did not want to comment for this story.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
