RED HOOK — Red Hook Lobster Pound is applying for a full liquor license in hopes of serving seasonal cocktails, beer and wine at its original Van Brunt Street location, owners said.

The popular seafood joint, which has been located at 284 Van Brunt St. for six years, will appear before Community Board 6 next week with its first liquor license application, according to the board’s website.

The eatery plans to close on Jan. 5 for an extensive renovation that involves adding more seating, a private dining area and enlarging the kitchen, co-owner Susan Povich said.

“And we want to round out our offering with alcohol,” she added.

The Pound is “not going to be a fancy cocktail bar” after the renovation but it will be pouring “anything that goes great with seafood,” Povich said.

That might include an original version of a “Seabreeze,” made with grapefruit juice, vodka and cranberry juice or a “Cape Codder,” which has vodka, cranberry juice and a lime wedge, she said.

Owners are also planning an expanded menu with more seafood fare, a burger, oysters and a raw bar. The menu already includes lobster rolls, lobster mac and cheese and a steamed lobster dinner for $25.

Red Hook Lobster Pound’s East Village location, which will remain open during the Van Brunt Street renovation, has a beer and wine license. The company will continue serving food there and at its food trucks and at Brooklyn Flea.

Owners are hoping to reopen the Red Hook location by the end of March.

CB6's permits and licenses committee meeting is scheduled for Dec. 22 in the courtroom of the 78th Police Precinct, located at 65 Sixth Ave. at 6:30 p.m.
