RED HOOK — A massive Red Hook warehouse and parking lot on Ferris Street was recently purchased by a Japanese businessman, according to the buyer's real estate agent.

Kobe Bussan, of Kobe Bussan Co. Ltd., which operates hundreds of supermarkets in Japan as well as the restaurant "Shabu Shabu Kobe" in Midtown, bought the property at 39 Ferris St. for $5 million and plans to eventually use it for storage, Yoko Evans, of Furumoto Realty said.

The property features a 6,000-square-foot warehouse and a 14,000-square-foot parking lot that was previously owned by "39 Ferris Street LLC," the New York Times reported.

Property transaction records were not immediately available.

While Bussan had initially hoped to move into the space soon after the sale closed in October, the move was delayed since the property needed further city approvals, Evans said.

"He just didn't want to bother right now," Evans said.

They are currently "negotiating the terms" to lease the space back to the seller for an undetermined period of time, she added.

The parking lot was being used as a bus depot for Chinatown bus operator Fung Wah, Jeffrey Unger, of Kalmon Dolgin Affiliates Inc., who represented the seller confirmed.

Under the original agreement, "39 Ferris Street LLC" would continue leasing the property until early next year, Unger said. He was not aware of the new negotiations but said it was possible he was not involved in them.

A lawyer for Fung Wah did not immediately respond to request for comment.
