Man Stabs Man With Large Kitchen Knife Outside of Bellevue Shelter: Police

KIPS BAY — A man was arrested for stabbing another man several times with a large kitchen knife outside of the Bellevue Men’s Shelter, NYPD said.

William Mahoney, 67, stabbed a 54-year-old man several times in the chest and shoulder using a kitchen knife outside of 400 E. 30th St. at about 4:40 p.m. on Dec. 12, police said.

Bellevue security saw the incident, and Mahoney was arrested at the scene, police said.

The victim was taken to Bellevue hospital in serious condition. He had to undergo surgery, and is currently in critical, but stable condition, according to a criminal complaint from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

Mahoney was charged with attempted murder, assault with a weapon and criminal possession of a weapon.

A temporary order of protection was issued. Mahoney is currently being held at Rikers Island and bail was set at $500,000.

His attorney declined to comment. 

Other Notable Crimes that occurred in the 13th Precinct include:

► Three teens attacked a girl and then took off with her jacket and shoes, police said.

A group of girls ages 14, 15 and 17 approached the victim at about 8:24 p.m. on Dec. 9, began attacking her and threatened her with a knife on the southeast corner of East 28th Street and Park Avenue South, police said.

Then they forcibly stripped of her of her jacket and shoes, and fled, police said.

The victim's clothes were recovered, and all three were arrested, police said. The teens were charged with robbery, felonies, according to a criminal complaint.

The names of the girls are being withheld due to their age. Their attorneys did not immediately respond to request for comment or could not immediately be reached.
