COBBLE HILL — A student died Tuesday afternoon after she choked to death at a Baltic Street school, officials said.

The student, who school officials did not immediately identify, was inside 184 Baltic St., near Court Street, shortly after noon when her air flow became obstructed, according to education and FDNY officials.

She was taken to Methodist Hospital and pronounced dead, officials said.

"I am deeply saddened to hear of this loss and my heart goes out to the student's family and the entire school community," said schools chancellor Carmen Fariña.

Department of Education spokespeople declined to say how the student choked, citing federal privacy protections.

The office of the Special Commissioner of Investigation was notified about the student's death, school officials said.

The campus where the student choked houses several distinct schools: the School for International Studies, the Brooklyn School for Global Studies, Success Academy and the Star Academy.

A DOE spokeswoman also declined to say which of the schools the student attended.

Guidance counselors at the school offered help after the student's death, Fariña said.

An NYPD spokesman did not have further information about the student's death.
