BROOKLYN — A man incorrectly identified as the shooter of a 12-year-old boy during a daylight shootout in Brownsville was released hours later after police determined he was not responsible for the crime, authorities said.

Esau Johnson, 22, faced charges of assault, weapon possession, reckless endangerment and endangering a child under 17 after a witness mistakenly fingered him as the person who wounded the boy in front of 215 Lott Ave. about 4 p.m. Monday, according to the NYPD.

"It was an incorrect ID by a witness," a source said.

John was let go and all charges against him were dropped, a police spokesman said.

The wounded boy, whose name was not released, was treated at Kings County Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, police said.
