CROWN HEIGHTS — A threatening, anti-Semitic message was scrawled in the hallway of an apartment building a week after a Jewish tenant moved in, police said, in what detectives are investigating as a hate crime.
The building manager at 1146 President St., an eight-unit building between Rogers and Nostrand avenues, found the message “Murder the Jew tenant” written in dark marker just inside the entrance of the four-story brick building on Monday, according to police.
After calling 911 to report the graffiti, the manager told police a Jewish man moved into the building the week before he spotted the message, according to a Community Affairs officer at the 71st Precinct. The incident is being investigated as a bias crime by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force.
Inside the building Tuesday, “wet paint” signs hung inside the building’s entrance and stairwell. No writing was visible on the walls on the building’s four floors.
No surveillance cameras captured the graffiti incident, police said, but as of Tuesday, no suspects had been identified in the case.
