Woman Attacked by 3 People in Gramercy, Prosecutors Say

GRAMERCY — A group of attackers punched, scratched and bit a woman on East 23rd Street over Labor Day weekend, police said. 

The three assailants — Teddy Wooten, 37, James Barnes lll, 25, and Alliesha Joseph-Morgan, 37 — assaulted the woman near Second Avenue on Aug. 29 at about 12:41 a.m., punching and scratching her head, according to a criminal complaint.

Joseph-Morgan then bit the woman’s fingers, police said.

Police intervened and pepper-sprayed Wooten and Barnes when they resisted arrest, according the NYPD.

The victim, whose name and age was withheld from court papers, suffered swollen bumps to her head and scratches to her face, police said, and was taken to Bellevue Hospital.

The pepper-sprayed attackers refused medical treatment, police said.

Wooten and Barnes were charged with assault, resisting arrest, attempted assault and harassment, records show.

Joseph-Morgan received a desk appearance ticket and was released from the precinct, sources said.

Wooten was released without bail after his arraignment, according to court records.

Barnes was released after paying $250 bail, court records show.

Other crimes that occurred recently in the 13th Precinct include the following:

► A mugger grabbed a woman by her hair and dragged her to the ground while her accomplice snatched the victim’s purse on Fifth Avenue between West 28th and 29th streets on Aug. 27 at about 11:32 p.m., according to a police report and court papers.

A good Samaritan grabbed the mugger, Glenda Cobar, 17, and held her until police arrived, according the criminal complaint.

The second female mugger fled the scene, according to court papers.

The victim suffered injuries to her right elbow and knees, police said.

Cobar was charged with felony robbery, according to court records, and was released without bail after being arraigned on Aug. 29.

►A 32-year-old man was arrested after stealing a co-worker’s wireless Internet hotspot, police said.

Jonattan Martinez took the Verizon Jetpack from a locked cabinet at a construction site inside 444 Second Ave. on July 31, according to court papers and a police spokesman.

Martinez then told owner he had taken the Jetpack and was not giving it back, according to the criminal complaint.

The worker was finally arrested nearly a month later on Aug. 25 and charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, police said. 

Martinez was released without bail after being arraigned later that day, records show.
