RED HOOK — Red Hook is turning into a maker’s paradise with several purveyors of artisanal food and drink adopting the waterfront neighborhood as their home.

Here are a few ways you can explore Red Hook’s food and drink manufacturing scene:

â–º Bean-to-Bar Chocolate and Small-Batch Whiskey at Cacao Prieto

Location: 218 Conover St. at Coffey Street

Price: $20

Cacao Prieto’s chocolate factory doubles as a distillery for its artisanal spirits and liqueurs, including Widow Jane, its signature “urban bourbon.” Chocolate factory and distillery tours take place on Saturdays and Sundays. 

â–º Whiskey and Rum Tours of Van Brunt Stillhouse

Location: 6 Bay St. at Otsego Street

Price: $10

The Red Hook distillery offers tours of its space on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for a look at how its whiskey and rum products are made. Tours can be scheduled in advance here.

â–º Meat-Centric Classes at Fleisher’s Meats

Location: 260 Conover St. on Pier 41

Price: Varies

The “traditional, old-fashioned butcher shop” hosts grilling workshops and pork butchery classes through the summer.

Fleisher’s Meats also offers a butcher training program at its Red Hook facility.

â–º Chocolate-Making Classes and Tours at Raaka Chocolate

Location: 64 Seabring St. near Van Brunt Street

Price: $10 for the tour; $50 for each class

Raaka Chocolate's 3,500-square foot chocolate factory is open for tours and chocolate-making classes. The 45-minute tours and weekend classes can be booked here. 

â–º Tours and Tastings at The Red Hook Winery

Location: 175 - 204 Van Dyke St. on Pier 41

Price: Varies

Tastings are poured Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Reservations are also available for private tours and tastings.

â–º Coffee Roasting Sessions at Pulley Collective

Location: 175 Van Dyke St.

Price: Varies

Pulley Collective offers an "Intro to Coffee Roasting" that includes a roastery tour and a class in roasting your own coffee. It's priced at $250 per person and requires a minimum of four people. The coffee roasting facility also offers an advanced class in roasting that caters to business owners. That is priced at $2,500.
