FINANCIAL DISTRICT — A taste of old Shanghai is coming to the Financial District.
St. George’s Tavern, co-owned by Chinese developer Sam Chang, is slated to open next month in 103 Washington St., an expansive, landmarked space that was once home to St. George's Syrian Catholic Church, which was built in 1812.
The two-floor eatery will be next to Chang’s soaring Holiday Inn, a 50-story hotel tower at 99 Washington St. that’s expected to open later in September. The restaurant will take the place of Moran’s, a longtime restaurant and bar that shuttered in 2011.
The restaurant will feature two menus, one with Chinese food, inspired by spicy Shanghai cuisine, and another with more traditional American and European pub fare, said co-owner Wolf Chang.
Items on the Chinese menu include sweet and sour pork with pineapple and spicy salt-and-pepper prawns. On the American-style menu, you’ll find entrees like sirloin steak, pan-fried salmon and appetizers including buffalo wings.
The dark-wood paneled restaurant — decorated with knickknacks and photos from 1920s Shanghai — will have two long bars and a cozy lounge space with chairs and couches. The eatery will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.
