JACKSON HEIGHTS — The Jackson Heights Orchestra is set to perform its first outdoor show this summer during the free "Summer Sundays in the Park" music series at Travers Park, now in its 10th year.

The series, sponsored by the Jackson Heights Beautification Group, brings a variety of musicians to Travers Park on 78th Street between 34th Avenue and Northern Boulevard and kicks off July 6, with shows every Sunday through Aug. 24.

“These concerts are a great opportunity to bring the people of Jackson Heights together, no matter their age, income or where they come from, to enjoy a wide range of performances — jazz, rock, Latin, dance and theater,” said Len Maniace, president of the JHBG and founder of "Summer Sundays in the Park."

The July 6 show will feature the Jackson Heights Orchestra's first outdoor show. The group, which started in 2012 brings together neighborhood musicians as well as those from around the city.

Other acts include the Sonic Power Pops, a garage rock band from Jackson Heights; the Urban Street Gypsies, which plays classic rock covers; and Los Colombian Roots, which explores a genre of music from the northern Colombian coast.

All shows start at 3:30 p.m., except the Aug. 24 show, which will begin at 2 p.m.
