EAST ELMHURST — A water main break shut down a street and impacted water service to more than a dozen homes Friday afternoon, according to the Department of Environmental Protection and the Fire Department.
The break on 77th Street between 24th and 25th avenues was reported at 11:30 a.m., according to Chief Robert McBride of Battalion 46. A DEP spokesman said a 12-inch pipe broke.
Con Edison and DEP crews were on the scene, and water was shut off on the one-block stretch.
Power and gas service was not impacted, McBride said, and none of the homes had any water damage.
