NEW YORK CITY — The NYPD launched a three-week crackdown on traffic violators Monday morning as part of the city's ongoing effort to curb crashes and other accidents, the department announced.

Officers will concentrate on the "most problematic intersections" in the city until July 6, police said.

The launch of the safety initiative comes on the heels of two in May that resulted in 10,058 tickets being issued, according to the NYPD.

Police have joined other agencies in a citywide effort — dubbed "Vision Zero" — to reduce the number of traffic-related injuries and fatalities.

Officers will be on the lookout for drivers who are speeding, running red lights, using phones, making wrong turns, disobeying signs and failing to yield to pedestrians, police said.
