ELMHURST — A local Food Network show winner and a "Top Chef" contestant will help highlight some of the borough's healthiest foods at an international tasting event this month to raise money for Elmhurst Hospital.
A Taste of Healthy Queens will feature roughly 20 vendors who will prepare food and serve wine that is preservative-free and healthy at the June 11 event.
Queens' own Chef Tomica Burke, who won an episode of Cutthroat Kitchen on the Food Network this spring, will host the event, which will be held under a canopy at the hospital's parking facility at 79-01 Broadway.
Chef Gina Keatley, a "Top Chef" contestant and the host of Healthy Soul on NYC-TV, will also be at the fundraiser.
Restaurants from all over Queens — including Uncle Peter's in Jackson Heights, Ploy Thai in Elmhurst, Pa-Nash in Rosedale and Wineroom of Forest Hills — will offer healthy samples of their cuisine.
There will also be live music, raffles and healthy cooking demonstrations, including one from the co-owner of Sabor Latino in Elmhurst.
Proceeds will benefit the hospital's Department of Cardiology, and the event is organized by the Elmhurst Hospital Center Auxilary, a non-profit organization that raises funds for the hospital.
Tickets for A Taste of Healthy Queens, June 11 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. are $50 and can be purchased from the hospital's volunteer office at 79-01 Broadway, or through this website.
Contributions to the hospital are tax deductible.
