KIPS BAY — A school safety agent was shot in the back in her Kips Bay apartment Friday morning, police say.
Edith Ragin, 62, was wounded about 9 a.m. in her East 28th Street home, between Second and Third avenues, a police spokesman said.
Her son walked her to nearby Bellevue Hospital where she is in stable condition, the spokesman added.
It was not immediately clear who shot Ragin, but sources believe that her son may have had a weapon that went off accidentally.
Ragin's son is in police custody but not been formally charged, a spokesman said.
Ragin worked as a school crossing guard before becoming a safety agent in Harlem, sources said.
