CROWN HEIGHTS — Hundreds of community members, friends and family gathered Thursday for the funeral of a toddler who died after falling three stories from an apartment building window.
The 21-month-old boy, Theodore Levi Nemon, was home with his mother, Sarah, and a caretaker at 580 Crown St., near Albany Avenue, about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday when he tumbled out of an open window that had no guards on it, a source and the NYPD said.
A funeral was held at Shomrei Hadas Chapels in Borough Park Thursday afternoon, followed by a procession outside of the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters at 770 Eastern Pkwy. Dozens of people from the neighborhood came to walk alongside the casket with the family to pay their respects, including Bella Pliskin, 30, a mother who lives in the building where the boy fell.
“Everyone feels terrible. I was in shock. It’s a very close community so everyone feels this,” she said while waiting for the funeral procession to begin. “It’s horrible.”
The boy will be laid to rest at Montefiore Cemetery in Queens, according to Jacob Nemon, 28, his half-brother.
"We'd like to thank everyone for their prayers. It's a difficult time for us," he said in a Facebook post.
It was not immediately clear if any criminality was involved in the boy's death. Police and the Department of Health, which investigates similar fall cases, are investigating.
The building's owner did not return calls for comment.
