RED HOOK — Animated flicks, cult classics and high drama are headed to Red Hook this summer when the neighborhood’s free summer movie series kicks off in July.

Red Hook Flicks is returning to Valentino Pier every Tuesday night from July 8 to Aug. 26 with films like “Dazed and Confused,” “Madagascar” and “Independence Day,” organizers announced Sunday.

“On the Waterfront,” a 1954 crime drama starring Marlon Brando was this year’s neighborhood choice, which locals chose during a fundraiser hosted over the weekend.

Local eateries such as Home/Made, Pok Pok Ny and Hometown BBQ that are sponsoring the event will sell food at the pier each night. Moviegoers can also bring their own snacks and drinks to the screenings, but alcohol is not allowed at city parks, according to Red Hook Flicks’ website.

The film screenings will begin around 8:30 p.m. or when it gets dark.
