A great way to get a better understanding of the architecture and design of our metropolis is to take a guided New York City tour led by the American Institute of Architects. The “AIANY Around Manhattan Architecture Tour“ circumnavigates the island of Manhattan by boat, offering a view of the “starchitecture” of the West Side, the skyscrapers of the Financial District and the icons of the East River. Observe it all from the yacht’s climate-controlled back deck observatory, or from the open bow. Tours take place at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at Chelsea Piers (Pier 62), West 22nd and Hudson River, Chelsea. Tickets are $76.

The Light In The Attic record label has built a reputation for curating excellent releases by artists as diverse as Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) and Detroit’s reclusive psych-folk legend Rodríguez. A recent release from the label was “There's A Dream I've Been Saving: Lee Hazlewood Industries 1966 - 1971,” celebrating the career of the eccentric king of cowboy psychedelia Lee Hazlewood. Tonight, Light In The Attic are hosting a one-off screening of the cult favorite film “Cowboy In Sweden,” featuring Lee Hazlewood. Also showing is a collection of short documentaries featuring Light In The Attic alumni Donnie and Joe Emerson, National Wake, Jim Sullivan and Wheedle's Groove. 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Spectacle Theater, 124 South 3rd St. Williamsburg. Tickets are $5.

Illustrator and designer Nathan Pyle has figured out the answers to some of the most perplexing dilemmas faced by New Yorkers: "Why is it raining on a sunny day? How much do you tip your tattoo artist? How long should you honk your horn?" He’s compiled his responses into a book of witty little cartoons, “NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette,” which is being launched this evening at 7 p.m. at Word Bookstore, 126 Franklin St, Greenpoint. The event is free but a Facebook RSVP is encouraged.
