RED HOOK — Pioneer Works Center for Art and Innovation is drawing support from celebrities like Maggie Gyllenhaal and Liv Tyler as it gets ready to host its first fundraiser.

The Village Fête” will be held May 4 to benefit the center’s arts programs and build an observatory, photo lab and music room within the brick walls of the former factory.

The event will feature performances, live music, cocktails and food from the Fat Radish as an “untraditional” party for the city’s creative and artistic community. Writer Bob Colacello, fashion entrepreneur Lauren Santo Domingo and actors Gyllenhaal, Tyler and Peter Sarsgaard are chairing the fundraiser.

“We’re trying to make it an anti-gala gala,” said Ella Marder, the Pioneer Works Center for Art and Innovation’s program director.

Pioneer Works, located at 159 Pioneer St., was founded by Dustin Yellin to bridge “the chasm between disparate disciplines,” according to its website.

Mirroring that mission, the Fête seeks to create a “cross-pollination” of experts from biologists and physicists to musicians and dancers, Marder said.

“The idea is to really take down all the usual compartmentalization,” she said.

For the first half of the upcoming gala evening, donors can purchase tables for $10,000 to $50,000 or a single seat for $1,000 to witness about a dozen performances, including a thereminist, who will play the electronic musical instrument, an opera singer, an all-female mariachi band, a 3-D printer and possibly acrobats and aerialists, she said.

“It’s going to be very untraditional,” she said.

The event will also feature an art auction.

The festivities will continue with an after-party at 7:30 p.m. with music from Ariel Pink and DJs Chances with Wolves, MGMT and the Beastie Boys’ Mike D. Tickets for just the party will be priced at $100.

The money raised will go toward new rooms and facilities at Pioneer Works as well as the center’s events, programs and residencies.
