JACKSON HEIGHTS — A taste of Queens is brewing in Brooklyn.
A beloved neighborhood coffee shop and wine bar with plenty of borough pride is set to give a shot to Brooklyn, by opening a second location there.
The owners of Espresso 77 on 77th Street have signed a lease in the former De Luxe Coffee in Park Slope, which closed last month, according to owner Afzal Hossain.
"We have friends living in Brooklyn and they sent us the listing," he said. They decided to give it a go, and plan to open sometime in May, he said.
The tiny location will also be called Espresso 77, Hossain said, since the new shop is on Seventh Avenue — and there are 77 milligrams of caffeine in a shot of espresso.
"Everywhere I go, the name goes with me," he said. "It's my signature."
The Jackson Heights location opened in 2007 and serves wine and craft beer in addition to lattes, cappuccinos and breakfast and lunch.
They also host live music and art shows, and sell T-shirts that show plenty of Queens pride.
Hossain said he's going to start small in the Brooklyn space, which will feature a smaller menu, some art shows, as well as some poetry.
He's in the process of applying for a license to sell wine and beer, he said.
Hossain will also bring along his Queens T-shirts and may later team up with Jackson Heights businesses to sell foods like empanadas inside the Brooklyn location.
"I want to introduce Queens to Park Slope," he said. "We can go to a different borough but still show our love."
