PROSPECT-LEFFERTS GARDENS — A teenage father was found with a stab wound in his chest in an apparent suicide inside his Brooklyn apartment Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Alexis Martinez, 18, was found with stab wounds in his chest about 4:45 p.m. inside his first floor apartment at 210 Parkside Ave., near Ocean Avenue, the NYPD said.

He was taken to Kings County Hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

Police believe Martinez killed himself, an NYPD spokesman said. The investigation is ongoing.

Investigators initially questioned a friend of Martinez's about his death, but she was not immediately arrested, the spokesman said.

Friends said Martinez had a toddler. It was not immediately clear where the child was staying or who has custody of him.

Childhood friend, Kimberly Salas, 19, said Martinez had an easygoing approach to life.

"He never told me about him having problems with anyone," she said. "He's such a happy person. I don't know why this would happen."

She said that he went to high school during the day and worked at night. Other neighbors said he worked construction with his father.
