EAST ELMHURST — A man trying to get across Grand Central Parkway was struck and killed by two cars on Friday night, police said.

Fidel Vidal Diaz, 31, was trying to cross the 10-lane highway from south to north and was struck along the westbound part of the Grand Central Parkway after having traversed the eastbound portion just after 11 a.m., police said. He was discovered unconscious and unresponsive by police responding to a 911 call for help, police said.

Diaz, who was from Murray Hill, Queens, had made it across the six lanes of the eastbound portion of the roadway to the median, but was struck by a 2005 Fort Mustang, and then hit again by a 2002 Volkswagen Beetle, police said.

Diaz was declared dead by EMS responders. Both motorists stayed on the scene. An investigation was ongoing, police said.
