CORONA — Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand will join Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras this weekend to discuss a variety of issues impacting women in Queens, according to her office.
Gillibrand and Ferreras will hold the discussion with female community leaders in the 21st Council District — and those who'd like to get more involved — in the basement of the Transfiguration of Christ Greek Orthodox Church on 98th St in Corona on Sunday from 3:30 p.m. until 4:45 p.m.
They'll discuss both local and national issues impacting women in the area, including pay equality, universal pre-K and women and minority-owned businesses, according to Ferreras' office.
The goal is to create an intimate setting to not only discuss issues both politicians are fighting for, but to find out what else is on the minds of the women in the district, Ferreras' spokeswoman Meghan Montalvo said.
Audience members will be able to ask Ferreras and the state's junior senator questions about problems they are facing and other issues impacting them.
"It's an intimate, informal setting to discuss meaningful issues," Montalvo said.
In 2012, Ferreras hosted then-City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in the Transfiguration Church for a similar talk with local female leaders.
Their goal is to host an event like this annually, according to Montalvo.

The event starts at 3:30 p.m. and the discussion is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Transfiguration of Christ Greek Orthodox Church, 38-05 98th St. in Corona, basement level.
