UPPER EAST SIDE — Bargain-hunting fashionistas can do good for more than their wallets this week.

J. McLaughlin, the design house known for its preppy-chic looks, will hold a pop-up sale at The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Thrift Shop from Thursday through Sunday. Thirty percent of all proceeds from the event will go to the cancer center.

The sale will feature women's and men’s clothing from J. McLaughlin’s spring line, as well as accessories such as handbags and belts. While J. McLaughlin clothing is usually priced between $125 and $250, with some items coming in around $400, customers at the pop-up will be able to grab the classic American sportswear at a 30 to 60 percent discount.

Highlights include a bamboo clutch that normally retails for $150 for $89.90, and a structure sundress at more than 50 percent off its $185 price tag.

Although this is its first collaboration with J. McLaughlin, the Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering has partnered with other designers in the past for special events. High-end home goods designer Madeline Weinrib held a sample sale at the thrift shop last spring, and fashion students from F.I.T. teamed up with the shop this winter to design a concept for the store’s holiday sale.

Outside of special events, the thrift shop has a reputation for high-quality offerings and maintains a room for designer items year-round.

The Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering, founded in 1946, is a volunteer-led organization that runs programs for patients and their families and raises millions of dollars each year for cancer research and education. The Society has run the thrift shop for more than 55 years and turned it into an integral part of its fundraising efforts.

The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day that it is open except Sunday, when it will run from noon to 4 p.m. The thrift shop is located at 1440 Third Ave.
