EAST NEW YORK — An unidentified pedestrian was fatally struck in a hit-and-run accident in East New York on Friday afternoon.

Police responded to a 911 call just after 3 p.m. Friday that reported a pedestrian being struck near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Williams Place. Upon arrival the police found the man unconscious and with severe body trauma.

Further investigation revealed that the man was pushing a shopping cart walking west on Atlantic Avenue and was struck by a three axle, dark-colored truck that pulled out of its parking spot, just as the victim was walking alongside it.

The truck sped away from the scene, and the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at the nearby Brookdale Hospital.

The victim’s identification is pending family notification.

The police are now on the lookout for the driver of the truck, police said.
