BROWNSVILLE — An enraged panhandler shot a man following a dispute aboard a Brooklyn bus Friday morning, police said.
The beggar blasted a rider in the hand on the B12 bus at East New York Avenue and Thomas Boyland Street, across from the 73rd Precinct stationhouse, about 9:50 a.m., the NYPD said.
The bus driver immediately flagged down an off-duty police officer, who was able to collar the shooter, a police spokesman said. No one else was injured.
“There are some concerns about his mental capacity,” NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton said of the gunman. “So, good news, at least the individual who committed this act is in custody thanks to the good work of the off-duty officer.”
The victim was taken to Brookdale University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the spokesman added.
Police recovered the 9 mm gun used in the shooting.
