WOODSIDE — A crowded Queens middle school that's relied for years on the use of temporary classrooms to house its students will be getting a 600-seat addition in the next two years, the Department of Education said.

The addition for Woodside's I.S. 125 is scheduled to open in September 2017, with the goal of eliminating the use of the school's existing trailer classrooms and mini-buildings, a DOE spokeswoman said.

News of the project was first reported by the Sunnyside Post.

State Sen. Michael Gianaris, who recently toured the facilities at 46-02 47th Ave., says the school has long suffered from "abysmal" overcrowding issues.

"This is a problem that has been going on for more than a decade," he said.
