SOUTH STREET SEAPORT — The owners of summertime favorite Beekman Beer Garden have opened a food truck serving snacks — and booze — at the Seaport, and they are also planning a new craft beer bar nearby on Fulton Street.

Called Beekman Bites, the truck sits on Front Street, near Fulton Street, right next to the Seaport's ice rink and in the same spot where SmorgasBar made its home over the summer.

Co-owner Telly Hatzigeorgiou said the truck is an “extension of Beekman Beer Garden,” though the sandy Pier 17 fixture, known for its view of the Brooklyn Bridge, has been closed to make way for Pier 17’s reconstruction.

Tacos, burgers and other quick eats, as well as beer and hard alcohol, are on the menu for the truck, open daily from noon to 9 p.m.

Hatzigeorgiou is using Beekman Bites to maintain a presence in the Seaport while he builds a yet-unnamed craft and “super-craft” bar, slated to open in June at 18 Fulton St. The Fulton Street space, long occupied by specialty retailer Brookstone, has been shuttered since Hurricane Sandy.

Like Hatzigeorgiou's craft beer bar Clinton Hall in the Financial District, his newest bar will also feature a “Flux Capacitor”a high-tech, custom-built draught system that's used to control the carbonation and temperature of each brew on tap.

Hatzigeorgiou is also building a glass-encased restaurant under the FDR Drive, a few steps from Pier 15, which is readying for a May opening. He owns or co-owns several other local watering holes, including the outdoor Governors Beach Club bar on Governors Island and Pier 15’s Watermark Bar.
