New Bar Opens Underneath the FDR Drive

LOWER MANHATTAN — A new, aptly named bar has popped up underneath the traffic-clogged FDR.

FDR Bar, which opened last week, is serving up drinks and tacos at an outdoor seating area of a still under-construction restaurant that sits just south of Pier 15.

"We wanted to do something fun for the warmer months, while the restaurant continues to come together," said co-owner Telly Hatzigeorgiou. "It's a great space with beautiful views."

Hatzigeorgiou, who runs the Seaport's Beekman Beer Garden and co-owns Pier 15's new Watermark Bar, said the yet-to-be named, glass-encased restaurant will likely be ready by March.

The outdoor pop-up and soon-to-open restaurant mark another joint venture between Hatzigeorgiou's company, The Lure Group, and Merchants Hospitality, which owns a slate of city eateries, including Lower Manhattan's Pound & Pence Pub and Restaurant and Oaxaca Mexican Grill.

The tacos and hot dogs at FDR Bar are being provided by Oaxaca Mexican Grill.

Hatzigeorgiou and Merchants Hospitality also recently launched craft beer haven Clinton Hall, an expansive beer garden at 90 Washington St.

FDR Bar is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
