MANHATTAN — A pedestrian was seriously hurt when an Access-A-Ride van smashed into the front of an apartment building in Murray Hill Thursday morning, the FDNY said.

The person was near The Benson apartment building at 143 34th St., when the van slammed into the entryway of the building about 8:45 a.m., according to witnesses and an FDNY spokesman.

The pedestrian was taken to Bellevue Hospital in serious but stable condition, the FDNY said.

The van's driver suffered minor injuries, but refused medical attention at the scene, fire said. No one else was in the van when it crashed.

Residents in the apartment building were temporarily barred from using the front door until the van was removed.
