ST. GEORGE — The city is planning to repair a 65-foot tall lighthouse sculpture and pedestrian bridge at the St. George Ferry Terminal.
The Department of Design and Construction put out a bid last week for contractors to replace the Siah Armajani Lighthouse-structure and pedestrian bridge, near the intersection of Bay Street and Richmond Terrace.
The estimated $2.5 million project will reconstruct the decaying tower and rehabilitate the pedestrian bridge that connects the lighthouse to the ferry terminal, a spokesman for the DDC said.
The sculpture, built in 1996 by Iranian-born artist Armajani, connects the ferry terminal's upper-bus ramp to the waterfront esplanade at street level and has been closed to the public for several years.
The repair of the sculpture is expected to start in summer 2014 and completed in spring 2015, the spokesman said.
