QUEENS — An elderly pedestrian was critically injured when a livery cab struck him in Elmhurst Thursday morning, police said.
The 81-year-old victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was halfway through the crosswalk at the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and Case Street when a silver livery cab slammed into him about 11:25 a.m., the NYPD said.
He was unconscious when medical crews arrived and rushed him to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition, police and FDNY spokesmen said.
Blood could be seen under the front wheel of the cab and the fire department said the man suffered head trauma.
The driver remained on the scene and was not immediately arrested, witnesses and police said.
Police said their investigation was ongoing.
