CITY HALL — Staten Island Councilman Vincent Ignizio was elected to lead the City Council's three-person Republican caucus on Tuesday, Capital New York reported.

The councilman, who represents the South Shore of the borough, will replace the term-limited James Oddo, who was elected Staten Island's borough president.

Ignizio has been a council member since 2007, when he replaced Andrew Lanza.

The Republican Party is vastly outnumbered by Democrats in the 51 seat City Council.

Ignizio said the group will be a louder but respectful voice of dissent to the mayor and other city lawmakers, Capital New York said.
