EAST NEW YORK — A 10-year-old boy was struggling to survive Saturday after apparently accidentally setting his clothing on fire in the bathroom, police said.

The victim, who was being treated for life-threatening injuries at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill-Cornell Medical Center, had disappeared into the bathroom of his family's Bradford Street house at 7:46 a.m. only to come out with his clothes in flames, police said.

"Nobody entered the bathroom at the time he was in there, [and] it was believed he was playing with some sort of matches or lighter," said an NYPD spokesman.

No criminality was suspected immediately, police said.
