INWOOD — A man was found stabbed to death inside of an Inwood apartment Sunday, in the area's first homicide of the year.

The victim, 57-year-old Hipolito Perez, was found dead inside 76 Vermilyea Ave. at 8:44 a.m. Sunday with multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck, police said. Police were responding to 911 calls, they said.

Officials said they are seeking Elvido Soriano, 62, in connection with the stabbing. Soriano is described as standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 165 pounds with salt and pepper hair and freckles. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, dark sneakers and a tan baseball hat.

The homicide is the first of the year in the 34th Precinct, which covers all of Manhattan north of 179th Street.

The precinct saw five homicides during 2012, including Edith Rojas, who was fatally stabbed by her ex-boyfriend outside of her Thayer Street apartment on New Year's Eve.
