COBBLE HILL — A new pediatric center for children and young adults has opened in Cobble Hill, specializing in urgent care and treatment of non-life threatening illnesses.

With their Coney Island theme, PM Pediatrics will treat newborns to college-aged adults providing care for illnesses and injuries like asthma, fever, infections, dehydration, sprains, fractures and wounds requiring stitches, according to a press release.

The outpatient center, which can be found at 240 Atlantic Ave., is their first Brooklyn location but they hope to expand throughout the New York metropolitan area, said Steven Katz, a founder and managing member of PM Pediatrics management group.

Located just blocks from Long Island College Hospital in Cobble Hill, PM Pediatrics allows parents to skip a visit to the emergency room, where 85 to 90 percent of pediatric cases can be handled by an urgent care facility, said Katz.

“Emergency rooms see a lot more than emergencies,” he said.

While PM Pediatrics will not provide emergency care facilities that are available at a hospital, they see themselves as an option for patients in need of care.

“We are that alternative,” he said.
