Bronx Man Shot and Killed Under Elevated Subway Train in Soundview

BRONX — A Soundview man was fatally shot in the chest after a fistfight under the elevated subway train Saturday morning in Parkchester, police said.

Marco Castillo, 24, is one of five men who died from gunshot wounds in the city in less the 12 hours from Friday night to the next day, according to authorities.

City paramedics, responding to a 911 call about 4:14 a.m., found the young man grievously injured at 1550 Westchester Ave. under the elevated 6 train, investigators said.

Two men had approached Castillo, and one of them started a physical fight with him, police learned after investigating. When Castillo began to win the fight, the second man shot him in the head and torso, police said, and they both took off.

Castillo was taken to Jacobi Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There were four other fatal shootings in New York from Friday night through Saturday morning.

Two men were shot and killed in front of an East New York mosque Friday night. Two other men were shot in Melrose, one died. Still another man was killed by a bullet to the head in Claremont Village Saturday morning.

Police released images of two men they said were suspects and captured on a surveillance camera, and described the first man was a dark-complexioned man in his twenties, 5-foot-7 and about 150 pounds, wearing a blue sweatshirt and jeans. The second suspect was described as in his twenties, 5-foot-10, weighing 170 pounds and wearing a dark jacket and jeans.

Police continue to investigate the other shootings, but no arrests have been made.
