NOHO — A young woman was critically injured early Saturday morning when she was thrown to the street while trying to climb through the window of a cab on East Houston Street, police said.
Witnesses told police they saw the 18-year-old woman arguing with a cab driver at the intersection of East Houston and Lafayette streets about midnight on Saturday, police said.
The woman approached another cab and banged on the window, police said. When the driver lowered the window she tried to climb into the car, but the driver sped off, leaving the woman to tumble into the street, police said.
The woman was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where she remains in critical condition, a police spokeswoman said.
On Tuesday, an NYPD sign at the intersection asked the public for tips about a "Fatal Hit & Run" there. The sign was first reported by Bowery Boogie.
The NYPD would not release the woman's name.
Cops ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
