TRIBECA — Police nabbed a man Downtown Friday night after witnesses spotted him toting around a giant sheathed sword, officials said.

Orlando Lassiter, 51, who had no known home, was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and disorderly conduct after a Port Authority police officer based at the Holland Tunnel tracked him down in TriBeCa, said Joseph Pantangelo, a spokesman for the agency.

Witnesses approached James Dunphy, the officer on patrol, and reported seeing Lassiter carrying what looked like a samurai sword, the PAPD said.

Dunphy, following the tip, found Lassiter about 8:30 p.m. outside the World Trade Center subway station, toting the holstered weapon, a spokesman said. Dunphy followed Lassiter to the corner of Barclay and Church streets, where he disarmed the man, he said.

Lassiter was arrested without injury or incident, Pantangelo added.
