NEW YORK — The Bed-Stuy man wanted for gunning down his girlfriend after sending her kids out for fried chicken was arrested and charged with murder following a standoff with cops and a failed suicide attempt, sources and police said.
Police tracked Eric McCormick, 40, to a Hurleyville, N.Y. house in Sullivan County, about a week after Sellis Gonzales, 44, was found shot to death inside her Chauncey Street apartment, a source said.
McCormick held off police at gunpoint late Thursday before shooting himself twice, at least one time in the torso, police and sources said. Police found a semi-automatic weapon at the scene, cops said.
McCormick was taken to Catskills Regional Medical Center and then transferred to Westchester Medical Center where he was in critical condition Friday afternoon, police and a source said.
He was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Police said McCormick gave Gonzales' two children, one of whom is believed to be his daughter, $8 to go out and get fried chicken on Sept. 18. When the two girls returned about 8:40 p.m. they found their mother lying dead on the floor with the door ajar, cops said.
Gonzales had been shot in the head and torso, police said. She was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
