INWOOD — A new fall class will give Inwood's seniors the chance to experiment with yoga exercises while exploring Inwood Hill Park.
Yoga Walkabouts, a class that starts on Monday, will take participants ages 60 and up on brisk morning walks through the park with fitness guru Nancy Bruning. During specific stops along the trek, participants will then get creative, using whatever items are nearby to perform yoga-based movements.
"We'll do some standing up poses, and some kind of poses where you might want to hold onto a bench or sit on a bench," said Bruning, who released a video showcasing 101 exercises that can be done with a park bench in 2011. "There might be something I do on a railing. It depends on who shows up."
Bruning adds that instruction will be tailored for both yoga novices and experts in order to ensure that every participant is comfortable.
The walkabouts are part of the City Parks Foundation's citywide exercise senior fitness initiative. The hourlong walks will take place rain or shine on Mondays and Wednesdays through Oct. 30 and participants will depart from the Inwood Hill flagpole at 11 a.m. For more information visit the City Parks Foundation website.
