BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — The Fourth Annual Brooklyn Heights Dog Show is currently accepting applications for the annual canine competition, the Brooklyn Heights Association announced.
Any mutt or pedigree pet can compete in the show's ten categories — most talented, best kisser, cutest outfit, cutest dog duo, cutest puppy, most talkative, best behaved dog, cutest small dog, best looking medium dog and sweetest big dog.
"This is not the Westminster Dog Show," organizer Judy Stanton said. "This show is homemade and amateur; mutts are welcome."
The first annual dog show was the brainchild of a former association president who wanted to celebrate the organization’s centennial year with something special. The show was a hit from the start, according to Stanton.
“It’s loud, noisy, chaotic and the neighbors love it,” she said.
This year’s judges have not yet been announced, but one will be an 11-year-old dog lover. The show lasts two hours and has a 60-dog limit, with preference given to those furry friends with a Brooklyn Heights address.
The first 50 dogs to register will receive free treat bags from local pet hotspots Perfect Paws, Pet's Emporium, Rocco and Jezebel For Pets.
The Best in Show Dog will be chosen by crowd applause and the owner of the winning dog will receive a gift certificate to Le Pain Quotidien.
The show takes place on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 3 p.m. outside of the Pet's Emporium on Montague Street. You can register your pup at the event's website.
