BOERUM HILL — A neighborhood post office may be shuttered in the next year to make way for a seven-story hotel, according to reports.

The Boerum Hill post office, at 542 Atlantic Ave., will relocate postal carriers to nearby stations if the location is closed, Brownstoner reports.

“At this time, we are still in lease negotiations on this location,” Maureen Marion, a spokeswoman for the United States Postal Service, said in an email.

The building’s owner also owns a five-story warehouse at 540 Atlantic Ave., according to Brownstoner.

Marion would not comment further on the rumored hotel take over.

Several reviewers on Yelp have complained bitterly about the Atlantic Avenue post office, calling the staff “rude, lazy, slow and indifferent” and recounting stories of undelivered mail.
